Quality assurance

Steel that embodies assured quality.

A high-performance quality management system forms the basis of our operations.
Throughout all phases of the production process, we consistently pursue the goal of ensuring the highest product quality.
The result is satisfied customers, high delivery reliability, and a very low complaint rate.

Quality isn’t a single step for us; it shapes the entire production process – from planning and manufacturing to the delivery of our products.
All quality assurance measures are centrally managed, coordinated, and continuously improved by our quality department.

Quality Assurance at Stahlwerk Thüringen – Verified Steel Quality

Quality assurance during scrap reception

Our entire production process is characterized by ensuring consistently high quality. When accepting the scrap, which serves as the raw material for Thuringian steel, compliance with the purity of the grades and freedom from contamination is monitored.

Through this first stage of our quality assurance, only flawless scrap enters the electric steel plant.

Quality assurance in melting and casting operations

When melting the scrap and subsequent treatment in the ladle furnace, we take samples that are analyzed with an emission spectrometer. Based on our measurements, we determine the amount of alloying elements that we need to add for the respective steel grade.

In the steel plant, we determine the chemical composition and thus the quality of the steel. After the casting process, the pre-material, the so-called beam blanks, are checked for dimensional accuracy and freedom from defects. In the next production step, in the rolling mill, the beam blanks are formed into the desired profile dimensions; our steel gets its shape.

Quality assurance in the rolling mill

In the rolling mill, material samples are taken directly from the finished product to ensure continuous quality control. Subsequent tests are carried out based on applicable national and international standards as well as according to the individual requirements of our customers.

All tests are carried out in our integrated materials testing laboratory. This laboratory is accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) and guarantees the highest precision, reliability and expertise in materials testing.

Through comprehensive testing procedures, we ensure that our steels meet the relevant standards and consistently satisfy the high quality requirements of our customers.

Furthermore, controls and measurements of the technological parameters and rolling temperatures, the dimensional accuracy and freedom from defects of the profiles are carried out in the rolling mill. Before dispatch, we check the bars, which are mostly bundled in packages, with regard to labeling, marking, and conformity with the order.

Every test and control is part of our integrated management system.

Quality according to international standards.

Our integrated management system is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001, the globally recognized standard for quality management.
This standard defines clear requirements for structures, processes, and documentation to consistently meet the expectations of internal and external stakeholders.

The certification proves that we systematically work towards the highest product quality, process reliability, and customer satisfaction.
