Our goal at Stahlwerk Thüringen is to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources as far as possible. Combined with the intention to produce climate-neutral steel by 2040, this means that we are using more and more environmentally friendly alternatives to coal, mineral oil and natural gas. We are convinced that internal mobility without fossil fuels is also feasible. It serves both climate protection and the health and quality of life of our employees.
Following a damage to the swivel joint of the 19-year-old diesel-powered wheel loader in the electric steel mill, we needed a replacement. We decided to purchase an electric wheel loader. With this, we now avoid burning 1,400 litres of diesel fuel every year. The associated annual CO2 savings amount to over 2,000 cubic metres or 3.71 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The new wheel loader is powered by electricity from renewable energy sources. The five-tonne vehicle is equipped with a 10A on-board charging system as well as a powerful 48V lithium-ion battery having a capacity of 40 kWh. Initial operating experience at Stahlwerk Thüringen has been consistently positive.
Steel that carries climate-friendly mobility.
