Steel in harmony with the environment.
Environmental protection is an integral part of our daily work and deeply embedded in our corporate values. Our environmental management system, certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001, ensures that we not only meet legal requirements but also think beyond the minimum – in the interest of our region, our environment, and the people who live with and alongside us.
Our central guiding principle: How do people in our vicinity want to experience Stahlwerk Thüringen?
This perspective guides our actions – open, sustainable, and future-oriented.
Our Environmental Principles – for a Good Coexistence
We commit to:
- Consistently complying with all legal requirements and limits.
- Presenting investment projects to the public early on to foster the established trust in the region.
- Maintaining transparency and dialogue with all relevant authorities.
- Continuously questioning and improving our actions – in the interest of the natural environment.
- Striving for long-term and sustainable improvements in all environmental matters.
The Team as the Foundation of Our Environmental Management.
Our environmental management system is supported by all employees of Stahlwerk Thüringen. Specifically, our operational officers, our environmental department, and the management are responsible for the associated subject areas.
These include, among others, the areas of immission control, water protection, waste, dangerous goods, and hazardous substances. Based on this collective awareness, we implement various sustainable and future-oriented projects.

DIN EN ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
ISO 14001 is a globally recognized basis for environmental management systems and covers all aspects for continuous improvement of environmental performance.
Sustainable steel.
As a regionally rooted company, we extend our understanding of responsibility and combine economic action with ecological and social foresight.
Our strategy: Conserving resources, closing cycles, promoting innovation – for a future that endures.
Circular Economy in Steel Production
A central element of our sustainability concept is the recycling of metallurgical by-products. Steel mill slags, which are generated during production, are returned to the resource cycle through optimized treatment and processing methods.
This creates new product qualities, new applications, and new markets – while simultaneously increasing the recycling rate and conserving raw materials.
Environmental Product Declaration for Building Material Comparisons
Together with other manufacturers, we have developed a standardized Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) according to ISO 14025 within "Bauforum Stahl".
It enables a standardized comparison of the environmental impacts of steel with other building materials such as concrete or wood. This is an important decision-making aid for architects and builders who wish to use sustainable materials.
As a member of Bauforum Stahl e.V., we are specifically advancing the sustainability of our products.
Partnerships & Initiatives
Sustainability is teamwork. Therefore, we are actively involved in initiatives and projects, including:
- Thuringian Sustainability Agreement (NAThüringen) – active participant since 2009
- Initiative for more recycled building materials in civil engineering and construction – Support for regional resource strategy
- National and international research projects – Participation in basic and applied research for more sustainable steel production
We are participants in the Thuringian Sustainability Agreement (NAThüringen).
Certificates & Information
